Radio Australia: Indonesian band rocking a green cause

(Visit Radio Australia website to stream the interview). An Indonesian band, known as “the Green Grunge Gentlemen”, is gaining acclaim for their environmentally-aware attitudes and their guitar-driven sounds made famous in the 90s by bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.

The band – called Navicula – has been around since 1996. They recently won a competition with Australian microphone maker Rode, that has lead to recording in a legendary LA studio and playing shows in the States and Australia.

And they may well be the only band in the world that sells eco-friendly soaps at their merchandise desk after gigs.

The band’s singer Robi dropped in to Radio Australia’s Melbourne studios for a chat with Liam Cochrane, who asked him whether the soap was popular after their sweaty gigs.

Presenter: Liam Cochrane

Speaker: Robi, Navicula singer
