The Battle of the Bands competition at Hard Rock Café served up talent, fun and a few surprises. In the end, after three consecutive nights of competition, the scores were tallied and the best band on the night won the lot.

Last night the Grand Final of the Battle of the Bands was held at HRC Bali with five bands competing for US$ 2000 in cash and the chance of a ticket to the worldwide Battle of the Bands competition which culminates in London in June.

It appeared from the outset that the bands who played the first qualifier two nights before, Navicula and Tol Band Tol had the advantage on the three groups that had played the previous night. The days break freshened them up while the other three, Superman is Dead, Hocuzpocuz and Jeemzee were flatter on this occasion.  Also, song selection played an important part in the process and may have let some bands down.

In the end, there was only one choice to be made. The first band out on stage, Navicula, put on the best and most solid performance of any band and worked the competition like seasoned pros.  The first adjudicated song received the highest points of any in the entire competition from the judges and set the bar way too high for the rest.

4. Hocuzpocuz
5. Jeemzee

Saat lagu Rumah Kita, duet gitar Dankie dan Om Ian Antono terdengar syahdu dan merdu tanpa mendayu-dayu. Sementara saya dan Om Iyek (Ahmad Albar) menyanyi bersama sambil berpelukan di awan, membiarkan panas matahari Rock n’ Roll yang kita anut membakar-hangus dosa dan kesedihan dunia…hell yaa

Oo yaa, di depan kami, Made, Om Donny Fattah, dan Om Abadi anteng mengamati dan menggembalakan kambing2 setan liar yang menari trance dalam melodi dan beat. Mereka cermat mengawasi kawanan ini agar tetap berada dalam rhytym dan GBHN (Garis2 Besar Haluan Neraka).

Unforgettable! inilah kesan pertama yg saya dapat dari sesi pertama latihan itu. Kami masih punya satu sesi latihan lagi hari ini. Terimakasih Yang Kuasa, atas nikmat,berkah dan anugerah diberikan lewat agama yang bernama Rock n’ Roll. Long live Rock n’ Roll!!!

Well, one night, we were hanging out with Cipta, a good friend from Jakarta and also the vocalist of Kid Immigrant… and he said he would give it shot writing the English lyrics. I love what Cipta wrote! He captured the essence of the song,  the meanings and feeling of the lyrics are still honest to the Indonesian version.

After hearing the new lyrics, Alan Abbott offered to produce the English version of the song. Stay tuned, the recording will be out soon, but for now, what do you think of the lyrics?
