    I came to celebrate earth day in Ubud on April, 25 2009. wow, it’s very wonderful. I enjoyed it ver much. I was touchy with the disabled people’s performance

    The Ubud Playground and the Earth Day Celebration in Ubud is perhaps the biggest continuous scam going on in Bali year after year. Ask anyone in the know around Ubud and they will all tell you its a huge scam put on by Deidre and her sister to raise big cash for their continued comfortable living in Bali. I have watched these women in action interrogating local business owners to invest by sponsoring this event. I am amused by the fact that year after year, many businesses and local media give these people so much cash and free publicity. I wonder when these people will actually wake up!!!

      Hi Taylor, I’ve heard this concern from a number of friends around Ubud who supported the first couple of Earth Day events have chosen not to be involved because the finances aren’t transparent regarding where the funds raised are going. Personally, me (and Navicula) were not involved this year, so i don’t know how the event went… i was hoping by now things would be more transparent, i heard they actually built something with funds raised, but i haven’t been to the playground site for a year or so…

    Hi Lakota, That is exactly right. There has been no transparancy whatsoever in regards to the finances of this Ubud playground situation and Earth Day event. I started a thread regarding this issue that is getting some response. Check out:

    Dear All Art Center at your service. first, i would like to say, i appreciate your interest in our yearly Event, I hope you came out on the day and help raised awarness and be reminded of what has been forgotten.

    I see Taylor my dear you just joined this blog.. as per above you have made some fairly large accusations.
    Stating our event/ project a scam and we have nothing to show for the takings!!

    WELL, I beg to differ my friend. we have a playground, and Entrance hall, 70 are of land. we have make a legal founding document. we are building a community center so that people can come together as one.

    We are holding weekly Ballet classes which the teacher is a former membr of the Royal Ballet- who does it for love and not the money.
    we are soon to hold Kung Fu classes for kids
    Gymnastic classes
    fun summer activities and more……..
    currently we doing all that we can to build a community center on the property.

    It would be great to have a community center in Ubud for all ages to enjoy! I have lived in Ubud since 1992 and i feel it would be an asset to us all to have this center and the Earth day event. Our community has a variety of so many people from so many walks of life, it would be great to have a melting point for people to share their art and there desire to share knowledge or remind themselves of the knowledge so easily forgotten. i read you blog and it seems you are angry about something ? i note that as you make such bold statements with no evidence of what you speak. our board choose to honor the 4 agreements:

    DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

    DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

    ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

    how become apart of the great team that organizes earth day every year?
